Rules

Failure to observe the following rules may result in the offender being excluded from using the pool.

  • All users of the Swimming Pool must shower in the changing rooms before entering the pool for swimming.

  • Outdoor shoes must not be worn on the immediate surrounds of the Pool, but be placed in the shoe rack in the corridor. Only one piece costumes to be worn as per the School rules.

  • There must be no inappropriate behaviour of any kind, no ducking, pushing in, throwing in, unneccesary shouting and running round the surround of the pool. Masks, flippers, and inflatables are not allowed in the pool during general swim sessions.

  • The orders of the person in charge must be obeyed at once. On on alarm sounding or whistle sounding:
    • immediate silence
    • listen
    • those in depth of water allowing them to stand - stand still
    • those out of depth - tread water or swim quietly to the side
    • Smoking is not allowed in any part of the building or school grounds.
    • Mobile phones must not be used in the pool building.

    Family Admissions Policy


  • A responsible person, aged at least 16 years, should accompany all children under the age of ten and / or any non-swimmers into the swimming pool. They must be in the water with the children they are accompanying and maintain a constant watch over the children for whom they are responsible and maintain close contact with those children who are weak or non-swimmers. The only exception to this is if the child has passed the ASA Pool Swimming Standard Award detailed below.

  • Children aged four to seven years must be accompanied into the water by a responsible person on a maximum 2:1 basis.

  • Children over ten years of age may be admitted and swim unaccompanied if they have passed the ASA Pool Swimming Standard Award. They can be tested by the Lifeguards and will be issued with a White Identity Card to produce on admittance. Please note a passport photograph is required.

  • Children over eight years may swim unaccompanied with a responsible person watching if they have passed the ASA Pool Swimming Standard Award as above. A Red Identity Card will be awarded to produce on admittance.

  • A responsible person must accompany children under four years of age into the water on a 1:1 basis. The sole exception to this is that two children under four years, whether swimmers or non-swimmers, can be accompanied by one person if both children are wearing armbands or other approved buoyancy aids. If in doubt please enquire with pool staff. All children in armbands must stay in the designated area.

  • Children over 15 years who hold a White Card may bring a guest if the Lifeguard is satisfied with the guest's swimming ability.

  • All members of the Swimming Pool enter Oundle School premises entirely at their own risk and the Governing Body and their agents accept no responsibility for loss or damage to member’s property or for any accident or personal injury that may occur to them whilst exercising their membership of the Club.
